Torkard Cider

NEW for 2011

We are currently (Oct '10) collecting and pressing fruit for our 2011 ciders. We have had a great deal of help and support from the media in 2010, in particular our local BBC Nottingham and especially the good folks at BBC Radio Nottingham.

Following an 'appearance' on Andy Whittaker's morning show on Radio Nottingham, in which with Andy's help I made an on-air plea for unwanted apples and pears, many folks contacted us and offered us all sorts of varieties of fruit. These are being collected from around the county to once again ensure that Torkard Cider produces true, real Nottinghamshire ciders for 2011.

BBC Radio Nottingham have also asked if they could ask the listeners to come up with a suitable name for this 2011 'collected Nottinghamshire fruit' cider; I am to be the final arbiter and I am really looking forward to it. Of course we do not have to use the name, but I am hoping it will be a good one that reflects our aims and the nature of our ciders.

Other new ventures for 2011 will be a cider made using a blend of Herefordshire and Nottinghamshire fruit; a 'working title' for this is either " 'Ovvert 'ill " or " Cross Border Conflict " (C.B.C.). We are not going to pretend it is a 'Nottinghamshire cider', but of course it will be made in Nottinghamshire.

We are also hoping to get enough pears to be able to make some sort of perry, but this is very dependent upon pear availability.

And of course we need to get our bottling machine going!!!
